URI’s Women Studies Program, which has offered an undergraduate degree for more than 25 years, has developed an interdisciplinary curriculum for the certificate, based on the most advanced scholarship and feminist pedagogical principles.
The graduate certificate, open to anyone with an undergraduate degree, will:
*Systematically add interdisciplinary breadth to the student’s program.
*Develop expertise in women’s studies theory and methodology.
*Offer focused study of the relatively new scholarship on gender and its intersections with race, ethnicity, class, and sexuality.
*Provide a professional credential to supplement other training.
The Certificate Program requires 9 credits of graduate work in any field where courses focus on women or gender and 5 credits in women’s studies courses. These courses may count toward a graduate degree in fields such as psychology, history, or English. (Students should check with an academic advisor.)
