URI student group to hold Holiday Pancake Dinner

Event to benefit Ugandan children

KINGSTON, R.I.- December 3, 2007 — The Schools for Schools groups from the University of Rhode Island and South Kingstown High School will host an all-you-can-eat Holiday Pancake Dinner at South Kingstown High School Saturday, Dec. 8 from 4 to 7 p.m. Funds raised at the event will be donated to the Atanga Secondary School in Uganda for books and supplies for the students.

In addition to the meal, there will be face painting, crafts, games, a raffle, door prizes, as well as pictures with Santa. Tickets are $5 per person, with a maximum of $15 per family (children under 3 free).

Many schools across America are helping to raise money for the Atanga Secondary School and other schools in Uganda for supplies, building renovations, teachers, tuition, and other necessities to provide a proper education to the children of Uganda. Many of these children live in displacement camps set up by the Ugandan government 10 years ago to protect the people from the Lord’s Resistance Army, a rebel group that has been waging war in Uganda for nearly 23 years.

So far this year the URI Schools for Schools group has held a car wash, T-shirt sale, and a book drive, which have raised more than $800.
