URI Feinstein Providence Campus to host Family Fun Day Oct. 4

Free event to include magic show, face painting and outdoor market

KINGSTON, R.I. – Sept. 25, 2009 – Magic, face painting, games and an appearance by Rhody the Ram. Mix those ingredients and more, and you have the making of the annual University of Rhode Island Feinstein Providence Campus Family Fun Day on Sunday, Oct. 4.

Sponsored by Feinstein Providence Campus Student Services, the Family Fun Day also will have outdoor activities this year. For the first time, the Family Fun Day will incorporate an outdoor market on Union Street between Westminster and Washington streets. Various vendors will set up tables with various items, including Jack’s Snacks dog treats, Cutiepies, Stella Marie Soaps, Cupcakerie and more.

“In the past Family Fun Day has been a rather small event,” said event organizer Betty Izzo Ricci. “Our aim is to bring URI to the forefront in the Downcity area. We want to build a sense of community through the Feinstein Providence Campus.”

Providence Mayor David Cicillini, URI President David M. Dooley and URI Vice Provost of Urban Affairs John McCray will attend the event. Each will have special pies named in their honor by area pie company Cutiepies. The pie for Mayor Cicillini is called the He Can Pecan Pie, while other pies are yet to be named.

In addition to the outdoor market, there will be several indoor activities held in the Paff Auditorium and cafeteria of the Feinstein Providence Campus. The events, which run from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. include:

• 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Child I.D. by Cranston Police Department

• 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.: Magic Show

• 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Caricaturist: will roam through the crowds: inside and outside
