URI Confucius Institute to host performance of the Hubei University Lion Dance, Oct. 10



KINGSTON, R.I. – October 8, 2009 –The Confucius Institute at the University of Rhode Island will host an authentic performance of lion dance and Chinese martial arts by Hubei University Lion Dance and Martial Arts Troupe Saturday, Oct. 10.


The performance will be held in Edwards Auditorium, 64 Upper College Road, Kingston from 6 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and free for students with a valid college ID.


Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Confucius Institute located in the URI Library, 15 Lippitt Road, Kingston or online via PayPal: confucius@uri.edu. Checks with a memo noting Confucius Institute at URI should be made payable to URI Foundation and mailed to the Confucius Institute.

This event is the second this month, following its popular annual signature event, the Chinese Moon Festival, that was held on Oct. 3, the fullest moon of the year. The Moon Festival was not only a time to celebrate the Chinese version of the American Thanksgiving, but it was also the second anniversary of URI’s Confucius Institute and an occasion to initiate all the Institute’s programs in the new academic year.
