‘No Impact Man’ to address URI freshmen Sept. 22

Author forsakes cars, electricity, disposable diapers for baby

WHO: Colin Beavan wanted to make a change by causing no change. The author convinced his Manhattan-based family to abandon its high consumption Fifth Avenue lifestyle and try to live a year while making no net environmental impact. The result was his book – No Impact Man – which is the University of Rhode Island’s Common Reading book for freshmen this year.

WHAT: Beavan will discuss his experiences and his book with students in two separate talks. Students and faculty members have been writing about their reactions at http://uricommonreading.blogspot.com. For further information about sustainability activities on campus go to http://www.uri.edu/sustainability/noimpact.

WHEN: Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, two separate presentations, 3:30 and 7 p.m.

WHERE: Edwards Hall Auditorium, 64 Upper College Road, Kingston Campus.
