October 28, 2011

WHO: Twenty-four teams of elementary and middle school students from throughout New England, along with regional food science experts, including P. Christopher Ellis and Ernest Julian from the R.I. Department of Health, Mary Yebba from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Michelle Richardson from the U.S. Army Natick Soldier Research Lab, URI Professor Albert Kausch, and William Bigelow from Blount Fine Foods.

WHAT: The First Lego League is an international program designed to get children excited about science and technology. Each of 10 experts will discuss an aspect of food safety and the students will have an opportunity to ask them questions. In addition, a number of exhibits about food safety and a Lego robot competition will be featured.

WHEN: Saturday, October 29 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

WHERE: The Center for Biotechnology and Life Sciences, 120 Flagg Road, on the URI Kingston campus.
