KINGSTON, R.I.– October 30, 2012 — Sandy was a powerful storm and the University’s extensive preparation paid off in all sectors of the campus.
The Emergency Operations Center was staffed throughout the duration of the storm and personnel monitored the progress and developments throughout the evening. Getting an early start on this work (emergency preparedness, public safety, grounds, janitorial, maintenance, utilities and all business services) was key.
There is cleanup today and repairs are under way, but there were no injuries, property damage was minimal and most of the Kingston campus still has power. Classes are scheduled to resume tomorrow, Wednesday, October 31.
Here’s a summary of current status as of 11 a.m., Oct. 30, 2012.
The University’s focus is on getting residential buildings back on line. Current power outages are dependent on repairs from National Grid.
