All of the lectures in the semester-long series, called “Health Care Change? Health, Politics and Money,” begin at 7:30 p.m. in Edwards Auditorium on the URI Kingston campus. They are free and open to the public.
Prior to his appointment to lead the Department of Health, Fine was medical program director at the Rhode Island Department of Corrections; founder and managing director of HealthAccessRI; physician operating officer of Hillside Avenue Family and Community Medicine; and physician-in-chief of the Rhode Island and Miriam Hospitals’ Departments of Family and Community Medicine. He also founded the non-profit Scituate Health Alliance, making rural Scituate, R.I., the first community in the United States to provide primary medical and dental care to all its residents.
Fine is the author of The Zero Calorie Diet, which examines the culture of excess through a fasting perspective, and co-wrote The Nature of Health, which studies health care services, human rights, society, technology and industry.
Unni Karanukara, international president of Doctors Without Borders, will speak at the final colloquium event on Dec. 10. The medical musical comedy, Damaged Care, will be performed on Dec. 4.
