URI professors to discuss 2012 Nobel Prize winners in economics

Lecture will be held Nov. 16


KINGSTON, R.I. – November 7, 2012 — Two University of Rhode Island professors will discuss the contributions of Lloyd Shapley and Alvin Roth, the joint winners of the 2012 Nobel Prize in Economics, Friday, Nov. 16, from 3 to 4:30 p.m.


The lecture, free and open to the public, will be held at the Coastal Institute, Weaver Auditorium, 1 Greenhouse Road.


The speakers are James Opaluch and Thomas Sproul, URI professors of environmental and natural resource economics. They will discuss Shapley’s contributions to the theory of cooperative games and matching methods and Roth’s experiments and designs for matching methods in education and health.
