An expert in Russian history and culture, Petro is in Ukraine for a year on a Fulbright grant to study the role of the Russian Orthodox Church. His op-ed about the protest was published in

“Both Russia and Ukraine consider themselves European nations, part of Western civilization, and in both countries pluralities favor membership in the European Union,” Petro wrote in his op-ed. “So how did the European Union manage to turn such a favorable situation against itself?”
