URI, Sen. Whitehouse to host marine industry executives for research update, March 20

WHO: Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, URI Engineering Dean Raymond Wright, URI Engineering Professors Richard Brown, Otto Gregory, Arun Shukla, David Taggart and George Tsiatas, and 10 executives from engineering and marine industry companies in Rhode Island.


WHAT: An opportunity for executives at local marine industry firms to learn about URI engineering research on material composites (materials made from two or more materials with different physical or chemical properties) and how that research may help the companies develop new products and expand to new markets. Faculty will discuss their research on such topics as the design of lightweight structures, marine composites in extreme environments, composites resilient to impacts, and aeroengine applications of composites. The event, which is organized by the URI Business Engagement Center and the office of Senator Whitehouse, will conclude with a tour of several research laboratories.

WHERE: Bliss Hall, 1 Lippitt Rd., on the URI Kingston Campus.
