KINGSTON, R.I. — May 17, 2018 — The Office of Innovation in General Education at the University of Rhode Island honored Kristine Cabral, senior lecturer in communication and Marc Hutchison, associate professor in political science with the first annual Excellence in General Education Award at a Faculty Senate meeting earlier this month.
The award recognizes two URI faculty members committed to providing students with an intellectually stimulating, challenging, and dynamic general education experience. Students and faculty nominated faculty members who exemplified excellence in general education and have positively influenced students’ learning experiences. Deserving faculty consistently demonstrate excellence in the delivery and design of a general education course.
Cabral was honored for her excellence in teaching COM 243G, Advertising and Consumerism. Hutchison was honored for his
excellence in teaching PSC 116G, International Politics.
Faculty Outstanding Service Award
Additionally, Fritz Wenisch, professor of philosophy, was awarded the Sheila Black Grubman Faculty Outstanding Service Award. Wenisch has served the URI community for more than 50 years. As chair of the Faculty Senate’s Constitution, By-Laws and University Manual Committee for more than 20 years, his knowledge of the history, content and meaning of these documents to the URI community is unparalleled. Nominators also commended Fritz for his organizational skills, patience, humility and willingness to share his knowledge.
