URI president to give first State of University address Feb. 1

Marc Parlange will outline new 10-year strategic plan

University of Rhode Island President Marc Parlange will give his first State of the University address, Wednesday, Feb. 1. Parlange, who joined the University in August 2021, will also lead a conversation about the University’s new 10-year strategic plan, which will also be shared with the community on Wednesday. His address will be streamed live.

The plan is the result of the dedicated work of an inclusive planning committee composed of a diverse group of faculty, staff, and students and co-chaired by Parlange and Professor Michael A. Rice, president of the Faculty Senate. The process included working sessions and community forums on the Kingston, Narragansett Bay and Providence campuses.

The plan’s four priorities are: Broaden the University’s impact through a reinvigorated commitment to its land- and sea-grant missions and the state of Rhode Island; enhance student achievement by cultivating an engaged and inclusive learning environment; foster an inclusive, people-centered culture; and implement leading-edge administrative and financial systems and practices to power the university of the future.

WHEN: Wednesday, Feb. 1, at 3:30 p.m.

WHERE: Edwards Hall, 64 Upper College Road, Kingston Campus
