RhodyTHON to take place Saturday, March 25 at URI

Student organized dance-a-thon raises funds for Hasbro Children’s Hospital

KINGSTON, R.I. – March 23, 2023 – Hundreds of University of Rhode Island students will converge on Mackal Field House this Saturday, March 25, to dance their hearts out for the benefit of children being treated at Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence.

The student-run RhodyTHON is taking place for the sixth year and the dance marathon is its signature event, wrapping up various fundraising efforts organized by students throughout the academic year. RhodyTHON has attracted up to 1,000 student volunteers in the past, demonstrating their best dance moves as well as their endurance, over 10 hours of uninterrupted dancing, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Grace Heppes, a junior clinical neuroscience major and this year’s RhodyTHON student executive director, invites students who have not yet signed up, as well as staff and faculty, to register online or in-person at the event to participate. “RhodyTHON allows us to have a fun and exciting day while changing the lives of the kids at Hasbro Children’s Hospital who have faced more adversity than most of us will ever experience in our lifetime,” Heppes said. “There is nothing better than knowing you are making a difference while also having the time of your life.”

The URI community is also invited to make online donations supporting the students’ efforts.

RhodyTHON has raised more than $600,000 to date for Hasbro, a Children’s Miracle Network Hospital. The group has set a goal of raising an additional $75,000 this year.
