Panel at URI to feature former Congressmen James Langevin, Steve Israel, and former White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus Oct. 17

Trio to discuss the ‘Polarization of Politics in America,’ as part of URI’s Langevin Symposium Series

KINGSTON, R.I. – Oct. 12, 2023 – It’s no secret that Americans’ opinions of our political and governmental institutions are at historic lows—with many blaming partisan divisions for our current state. A recent study by Pew Research Center found that not only were Americans exhausted and angry when thinking about politics, but that more than eight-in-ten (86%) believe that Republicans and Democrats are more focused on fighting one another than on solving problems. Is there an opportunity to bridge the gap? And, if so, how?

On Tuesday, Oct. 17, the University of Rhode Island will bring together experts and political professionals from both sides of the aisle to examine the polarization of 21st century American politics and discuss recent and ongoing attempts at bipartisanship. “Polarization of Politics in America: Finding the Center” will feature former U.S. Congressmen James R. Langevin (D-RI) and Steve Israel (D-NY), and Reince Priebus, former White House Chief of Staff to President Donald Trump.

This event is free and open to the public. Registration is required. The event will also be livestreamed.
