URI to present Inclusive Excellence Awards in 10 categories

Event to be held April 3 at Memorial Union

KINGSTON, R.I. – March 13, 2024 – The University of Rhode Island will hold its Inclusive Excellence Awards dinner and ceremony Wednesday, April 3, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. in the Memorial Union Ballroom.

Register by Wednesday, March 20, for this free event, which will honor individuals and groups in 10 categories:

• Undergraduate Student Award for Academic Excellence
• Undergraduate Student Award for Community Excellence
• Student Organization Excellence Award
• Graduate Student Academic Excellence Award
• Graduate Student Community Excellence Award
• Staff/Administrative Excellence Award
• Faculty Excellence in Research Award
• Faculty Excellence in Community Award
• Faculty Excellence in Inclusive Teaching Award 
• Inclusive Excellence Lifetime Achievement Award (selected by the president)

“The Inclusive Excellence Awards honor undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and staff of the University who have been committed to demonstrating and promoting inclusion at URI,” said Michelle Fontes, assistant vice president for Community, Equity and Diversity.

Sponsored by the URI’s Office of Community, Equity and Diversity and the Office of the President, the event honors those who have demonstrated extraordinary efforts toward advancing diversity and a sense of belonging at URI, according to Fontes.

“We encourage campus community members to attend this important event,” Fontes said. “We hope that those attending will be inspired by our honorees to create a diverse, equitable, and inclusive University where every individual feels empowered to work, learn and thrive.”
