PRESS funding available for science-based seafood projects

Pre-proposals are due Nov. 25

Oct. 8, 2024

URI faculty are invited to apply now for PRESS funds for seafood systems research, in which researchers pair with industry to develop needed research into the science of seafood. The Partnership for Research Excellence in Sustainable Seafood (PRESS) funds are available for science-based projects that apply research, outreach, and industry approaches to solving Rhode Island-based sustainable fisheries, aquaculture, and other seafood system problems.

Funds awarded will be used to support applied research and problem solving that directly benefits the Rhode Island seafood sector. While a research-industry collaboration is required for each application, research partners do not need to be based in Rhode Island. No indirect costs are allowed.

Pre-proposals are due Nov. 25, as the next round of decision-making by the PRESS coordinating committee will take place in December.

The $1 million PRESS program has funded several innovative, problem-solving projects since last year and is seeking proposals to seed new efforts. To learn more visit the PRESS initiative.

PRESS is a partnership of the University of Rhode Island College of the Environment and Life Sciences, URI Graduate School of Oceanography, Rhode Island Sea Grant, and the URI Coastal Resources Center, with funding secured by U.S. Senator Jack Reed.
