EV charging stations updated pricing

Jan. 8, 2025

On Jan. 1, the Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources implemented a new Electric Vehicle Charging Station Cost Recovery Policy, in accordance with Section 42-140-11 of the Rhode Island General Laws.

Beginning Jan. 20, the University of Rhode Island will implement the policy, which supports the sustainable operation and maintenance of EV charging infrastructure while promoting efficient use of charging stations for all users.

Charging Fees:

Level 2 Charging Stations: $0.28 per kilowatt-hour (kWh)
These fees will apply to all users—including the URI/state fleet, URI Faculty/Staff, students, and the public—at any charging stations located on the URI campuses.

Maximum Charging Period:
Users must move their vehicles after 4 hours of charging to allow others access to the station. You will receive a notification from the ChargePoint app when nearing the 4-hour limit before any idle fees are charged.

Idle Fees:
Level 2 Stations: $0.25 per minute after 4 hours of continuous occupancy.
