URI Police to hold active threat training exercises Aug. 5 and 19

The URI Police Department will be conducting active threat training exercises on Tuesday, Aug. 5, at Green Hall and Tuesday, Aug.19, at the Fascitelli Center for Advanced Engineering. The areas being used will be clearly marked with signs indicating police training in progress.

  • On Aug. 5, exercises will take place between 5 and 7 p.m.
  • On Aug. 19, exercises will take place in the morning between 5 and 6 a.m.

Officers will be accompanied by instructors/safety officers wearing yellow vests. No live weapons will be used. There will be occasional loud noises created in the training locations by sound-emitting distraction devices and fired blanks. There may also be role players using special-effects makeup.
