The University of Rhode Island Board of Trustees approved six new or revised administrative policies on Nov. 7. Four of those policies are effective immediately and are highlighted below with links to the policies. Two additional policies — the Policy on Conflict of Interest and Commitment and the Policy on Consensual Relationships — will become effective Jan. 1, 2026 (with summaries and links posted at that time).
Policy on Financial Conflict of Interest in Research (01.010.2)
The purpose of this revised Board of Trustees policy is to meet the requirements of federal regulations and policies regarding financial conflict of interest in research, and to ensure that the University and its employees participating in research activities conduct themselves in accordance with relevant federal regulations and policies.

Policy on Conflict of Commitment in Research (01.018.1)
The intent of this new Board of Trustees policy is to aid investigators in avoiding (or, if it’s determined to be possible, managing) conflicts of commitment in research, and to meet the requirements of applicable federal regulations and policies.

Policy on Tuition, Fees, and Charges (01.019.1)
The purpose of this new Board of Trustees policy is to enhance clarity and transparency regarding the process for approving changes to tuition, fees, or charges at URI. In fulfillment of its responsibility to ensure effective management of the University’s fiscal resources, the URI Board of Trustees seeks to maintain broad access to educational opportunities while appropriately considering unique factors associated with programs.

Policy on University Trademarks and Licensing (01.008.3)
The intent of this revised Board of Trustees policy is to promote and protect the University of Rhode Island’s brand and reputation by ensuring proper usage of the University’s name and symbols. Review of the existing policy was initiated to reflect a shift of its administration from the Vice President for Student Affairs to the Vice President for Communications and Marketing.
