To Our URI Community,

This morning, officials announced that a person of interest has been detained in connection with yesterday’s shooting at Brown University.

We continue to stand with and in support of our friends and colleagues at Brown during this profoundly difficult time. We mourn those who lost their lives and hold in our thoughts those who were injured. And we are deeply grateful to the first responders and law enforcement professionals who responded quickly.

Rhode Island is a close-knit community, and moments like this remind us how deeply connected we are. I am thankful to our URI Police officials, who remained in close communication with law enforcement partners throughout the incident to help ensure the safety of our community and to make decisions based on the best available information. We encourage anyone who may need support during this time to make use of the campus resources available to them.

URI stands together with the Brown community. We have reached out to our colleagues at Brown to express our support and to offer any assistance we may be able to provide as they navigate the days ahead.
