Are you interested in leading an Honors Pop-up, an informal discussion session with motivated and interested Honors students?

Jan. 6, 2026

The URI Honors Program is looking for faculty, staff, or graduate students who are interested in hosting one-hour sessions on topics of their own particular interest (research-related or otherwise) in Spring ‘26 and Fall ‘26. These sessions will be held in the Living Learning Communities of the dorms in a casual discussion format with food and/ or snacks. They will be publicized to the honors students as well as the community at large.

Have good conversations in a relaxed setting, with motivated and curious students!

We’d like to see topics from every discipline: STEM, Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Professions, as well as an interdisciplinary focus.

We encourage an activity related to the topic as part of the plan (games, craft, art, writing, trivia, brain-teasers…)

Ex: Suited for Space: Directed drawing of space apparel while learning about real space suits; Philosophy Pizza: Have pizza and discuss the meaning of Being; Planting with Purpose: Pot your own plant while learning about plant science; Show Me the Money: Play Monopoly and discuss personal finance; Write This: Calligraphy in different cultures and alphabets.

Please respond via Google form, where you will define your topic (or topics), a wished-for month in which to host the event, and any background information you’d like to share.

The deadline for proposals is Friday, Feb. 6, 2026.
