Dear URI Faculty and Staff,
The University must comply with Rhode Island General Laws §§ 28-5-1, Equal Opportunity and [Permissible] Affirmative Action, which currently requires the submission of an annual nondiscrimination plan, formerly known as the affirmative action plan. We are pleased to share the executed FY24-FY25 Non-Discrimination Plan.
As part of our commitment to promoting civil rights compliance and ensuring equal opportunity for all, the Office of Equal Opportunity has continued to monitor guidance from the Rhode Island Department of Administration Division of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, which is responsible for enforcing Rhode Island General Laws §§ 28-5-1, as well as guidance issued by the federal government.
To comply with new civil rights compliance requirements, the Office of Equal Opportunity has introduced an Equal Employment Opportunity tab, where you may find:
- A definition of permissible affirmative action;
- An updated Civil Rights Compliance Toolkit for Employee Recruitment, Selection, and Hiring, as well as an Accessibility Considerations Checklist, and other resources for Hiring Managers, Search Chairs, and Search Committee Members; and
- Civil Rights Reports, including the executed FY24-FY25 Non-Discrimination Plan.
We look forward to partnering with you and continuing to expand these resources. To access our last communication on this announcement, please click here.
