Kinesiology professor Christie Ward-Ritacco named regional chapter trustee

KINGSTON, R.I. – March 11, 2026 – Christie Ward-Ritacco, an associate professor and graduate program director in the Department of Kinesiology in URI’s College of Health Sciences, has been elected to a three-year term as a regional chapter trustee of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).

“I’m elated to have the unique opportunity to work with the members of the board of trustees and ACSM’s leaders to shape the organization’s mission, vision, and values in ways that propel the field and associated professions forward,” said Ward-Ritacco.

As the regional chapter trustee, Ward-Ritacco will represent the interests of the regional chapters and their members at the national level.

“We are thrilled that Dr. Ward‑Ritacco has been elected to one of the most prestigious leadership positions within the American College of Sports Medicine, the leading organization for exercise science and sports medicine,” said Matthew Delmonico, chair of URI’s Department of Kinesiology.

Ward‑Ritacco will use her experience working with ACSM’s Committee on Certification and Registry Boards, the ACSM International Health and Fitness Summit Committee, the ACSM Exercise Is Medicine Active Aging Task Force, and regionally with the New England Chapter to grow ACSM’s membership and continue to support members’ needs through targeted grant support, educational offerings, and professional development programming.

“Dr. Ward‑Ritacco’s commitment to advancing professional standards, education, and ethical practice is extraordinary, and we are incredibly proud of her continued leadership and impact,” said Delmonico.

Ward-Ritacco recognized the role ACSM has played in development as a researcher, educator, and clinician.

“Membership in ACSM has provided me with opportunities and mentorship from leaders in exercise science for about 20 years,” said Ward-Ritacco. “As an ACSM volunteer, both nationally and regionally, I’ve worked with so many outstanding individuals who have become professional collaborators and personal friends.”
