URI to announce appointment of inaugural executive director of Ryan Institute for Neuroscience, Nov. 3

Institute founded with $15 million donation from former CVS chief Thomas Ryan


WHO: Rhode Island Governor Gina M. Raimondo, University of Rhode Island President David M. Dooley, former CVS Health Chairman Thomas M. Ryan, URI Provost Donald H. DeHayes, and URI neuroscience faculty and students.


WHAT: The University will announce the appointment of the inaugural executive director of the George & Anne Ryan Institute for Neuroscience, which was established with a $15 million donation from Tom Ryan and his wife Cathy. It is named in honor of Ryan’s parents.


The first executive director of the Ryan Institute is an international leader in the study of Alzheimer’s disease. The Institute focuses its research, teaching, and outreach on neurodegenerative diseases and disorders, like Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and ALS. It draws on the expertise of more than 30 scientists from across the University who have been studying brain disorders and diseases from multiple perspectives and disciplines.
