The U.S. University Select Team finished with a 3-2 record, good for seventh place in the international hockey tournament and its highest finish at the event since returning in 2001 with players from the American Collegiate Hockey Association. The association is the umbrella organization for college club hockey teams in the United States.
URI sophomore forward Kyle Krannich of Randolph, N.J. scored twice in the contest, while URI junior forward Devin Sheehan of Binghamton, N.Y. and Dan Lassik, a URI freshman defenseman from Garnet Valley, Pa., each had assists on two other goals.
URI’s Jon Biliouris, a senior defenseman from North Smithfield, rounded out the Rhody player contingent. Only the University of Illinois had more players on Team USA.
Team USA’s coach, Joe Augustine, is the Rhody men’s hockey team’s skipper. He is a resident of North Scituate.
