WEST GREENWICH, R.I.—March 26, 2009 – The University of Rhode Island’s W. Alton Jones Campus in West Greenwich will host an Open House on Saturday, April 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for families interested in the Alton Jones Summer Camps for children.

The Open House provides parents and children an opportunity to speak with the W. Alton Jones Camp administrative and camp staff about the environmentally oriented day, overnight and teen expedition camping programs available for children ages 5-17. Refreshments, tours of the facilities and property and the opportunity to register children for camp will be available.

URI’s W. Alton Jones Campus is a 2,300-acre former estate with a 75-acre private lake and 10 miles of hiking trails. Day campers either explore life on the farm at the Woodvale Farm Day Camp for ages 5-8 or the ecology of forests, ponds and streams at the Eco-Zone Day Camp for ages 8-11. Overnight Earth Campers ages 9-13 can choose from a variety of themes that explore topics such as forest ecology, the world of water, outdoor skills and conservation. The Teen Expeditions program for ages 12 through 17 focuses on backpacking, rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking, rafting and caving.
