In conjunction with URI Honors Colloquium China Rising


KINGSTON, R.I. –October 30, 2008– URI Great Performances will present on Friday, November 2 at 8 p.m. at the Fine Arts Center Concert Hall, 105 Upper College Road, Kingston campus.


This acclaimed ensemble opens a window to Chinese culture through an unforgettable musical experience. The harmonious blending of lutes, zithers, fiddles, erhu, bamboo flutes evokes images of the tangible and the sublimes. Wang Guowei, erhu virtuoso joins the ensemble for this performance.


The concert is presented in conjunction with the University’s Fall 2007 Honors Colloquium, China Rising. The semester-long series explores China’s dramatic transformation during the past three decades, a transformation that has returned that country to the leading role it has played throughout most of world history.


The Rhode Island State Council on the Arts is sponsoring, in part, this event. It is co-sponsored by the URI College of Arts & Sciences and Mark ’64 and Donna Ross.
