URI community invited to participate in South Kingstown 300th anniversary parade

URI President Marc Parlange and Mary Parlange to be among parade participants

KINGSTON, R.I.—June 1, 2023—All University of Rhode Island faculty, staff, and students are invited to participate in the upcoming town of South Kingstown’s 300th anniversary parade, to be held Saturday, June 17, 2023, in Wakefield.

The parade—a featured event in the yearlong celebration of the town’s tricentennial—will follow a 1.3-mile route, beginning at the intersection of School and Holley streets and, after traveling Main and High streets, concluding at Town Hall. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. and will feature a festive lineup of marching bands, community organizations, floats, and more.

URI President Marc Parlange and Mary Parlange will march in the parade, alongside the 27-foot-long URI float. URI community members who wish to also march in the parade are asked to register here by Thursday, June 8. Also, URI members who plan to attend or observe the parade are asked to please register by that date.   

Following the parade, community members are invited to the 300th anniversary post-parade picnic, with live music and food trucks at Saugatucket Park, located at 101 High Street.

The University of Rhode Island, whose Kingston Campus is located within South Kingstown, is proud to support and collaborate with South Kingstown and the 300th Anniversary Steering Committee in celebrating this historic milestone for the town and community.
