URI Board of Trustees approves financial aid, tuition plan for 2024-25

URI will provide more than $150 million in financial aid to students—a record high for the University

KINGSTON, R.I.—Feb. 28, 2024—The University of Rhode Island will provide a record level of financial aid support during the 2024-25 academic year. The University’s Board of Trustees approved the comprehensive tuition, fees, and financial aid plan at a regular meeting on Friday, Feb. 16.

“The University of Rhode Island is committed to providing broad access to a high-quality academic experience while also meeting our financial responsibilities,” said Board of Trustees Chair Margo Cook. “We continue to work in partnership with elected state officials to more fully fund the University, especially during this period of rising inflationary costs.”

The board approved an increase in tuition and mandatory fees of 3.3% for in-state students and 3.8% for out-of-state students. Cook noted that the increase “is necessary to meet our promise of providing excellent academic opportunities.”

Recognizing the inflationary pressures on students and families, the board also approved an increase in funds available for financial aid. Financial aid support at URI will increase to more than $150 million — a record high for the University — and will provide continuing support for, and investment in, URI undergraduate and graduate students. More than 89% of URI students receive some form of financial aid.

“Our goal is to ensure a URI education is always within reach for students across the Ocean State,” said URI President Marc Parlange. “This plan ensures that URI will remain among the most affordable flagship state universities in the Northeast.”

URI, the state of Rhode Island’s flagship public research university, enrolls more than 17,000 undergraduate and graduate students, nearly half of whom are Rhode Island residents, with students representing nearly every U.S. state and more than 65 countries.

The University offers more than 200 undergraduate and graduate programs of study, along with dozens of flexible, online programs through its URI Online platform. Customized study-abroad opportunities are available for every degree program in more than 60 countries, and students participate in more than 300 student clubs and organizations. URI students continue to experience academic and post-graduate success. A recent survey revealed that 90% of recent graduates are either employed or in graduate school within six months of graduation.
