Scenic Route

First Light on the Farm

A snowy New England farm landscape at dusk, featuring a large yellow barn with two silos and a smaller outbuilding beside it. Horses graze in a fenced pasture covered in snow, and bare tree branches in the foreground are coated with fresh snow against a soft purple sky.

Joe Stratton ’20 shared this photo he took at sunrise in his hometown, Southwick, Mass., in the Pioneer Valley. Joe pursues photography as a hobby, but aspires to professional work.

“I have a deep love and admiration for all of New England,” Stratton says. “From the coasts to the mountaintops, from the valleys to the islands, and every town green in between, traveling my home region and telling its story through photographs has become my favorite creative outlet.”

Stratton says, “The sun was setting behind the iconic anchor and the tall ship Oliver Hazard Perry, making for a beautiful backdrop for this photo.”
