Ocean Swell at Camp Cronin by Alex Larson ’77
Alex Larson ’77 is a retired corporate economist living in San Antonio, Texas. In 2014, he returned to Rhode Island to visit family and friends and he shot this photo at Camp Cronin Fishing Area in Narragansett. The swell, he says, was bigger than what he typically sees here, and he wanted to capture the “energy and fury” of the wave hitting the jetty. He adds, “The man standing out on the jetty gives a feel for the scale of the wave.”
Larson shoots mostly “cityscapes and Americana/Route 66 types of subjects, and traditional landscapes.” His photos have been published in Black & White Magazine, the French magazine Photo, and Viewfinder, the quarterly journal of the Leica Society International.
“We have a saying about shooting seascapes,” says Larson. “If you didn’t get wet, you weren’t close enough!”
